JAKARTA, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- The foreign ministers for
Indonesia and Malaysia will meet in Jakarta next week to talk about
conflicts between the two Asian countries, an official says.
Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman Teuku Faizasyah said
Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman and Indonesian Foreign
Minister Hassan Wirajuda will meet in the Indonesian capital
Thursday, The Jakarta Post reported Friday.
Anifah's call for the meeting came days after several
ultra-nationalists sought out Malaysian nationals to harass in
Jakarta, Teuku said.
"We consider this as a regular working visit by the
Malaysian foreign minister to foster bilateral relations, but we do
get the impression that the visit was prompted by the recent
flag-burning and 'sweeping' incidents here," the ministry spokesman
said.
The Jakarta Post said the Indonesian government has assured
Malaysia it will protect all foreigners, including Malaysian
nationals, living in Indonesia.
