WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- A judge in Manitoba, Canada, has removed herself from bench duty while the Canadian Judicial Council reviews a sexual harassment complaint against her.

Lori Douglas, associate chief justice of the Manitoba Court of Queen's Bench, disclosed details of a private sex scandal and asked to be removed from the bench until the matter is settled, reports by the CBC and the Winnipeg Free Press said Thursday.

"In the interests of the judiciary and of the court, Associate Chief Justice Douglas has requested to be temporarily relieved of her duties as a sitting judge of the Court of Queen's Bench," Chief Justice Marc Monnin said in a statement.

Douglas made the request hours after a Winnipeg computer programmer filed three lawsuits seeking $67 million in damages against Douglas, her husband and the law firm where both used to work, the reports said.

"It is hard to believe that the integrity of our judicial system has been so tarnished by those who are meant to uphold it," Alex Chapman, who filed the lawsuits, wrote in a summary that accompanied them.

Jack King, now a family lawyer in private practice, and also Douglas' husband, is the subject of a misconduct investigation by the Law Society of Manitoba, the reports said.

Chapman alleges that King tried to recruit him to have sex with his wife on more than one occasion, sent him nude pictures of her, and also directed him to a Web site that displayed nude photographs of her.
