U.S. actor John Travolta decided to drop his case against two alleged Bahamian extortionists, saying he wants to move on from his son's 2009 death.

With Travolta's decision, a judge in the Bahamas dismissed the charges against Tarino Lightbourn and former Sen. Pleasant Bridgewater Monday, the day the retrial was to begin, E! Online reported.

Ambulance driver Lightbourn and former politician Bridgewater were accused of trying to extort $25 million from Travolta and his wife, Kelly Preston, after their 16-year-old son, Jett, died in January 2009 after a seizure while vacationing with his family in the Bahamas.

The original case against Lightbourn and Bridgewater ended in a mistrial in October.

"The long pending status of this matter continued to take a heavy emotional toll on my family, causing us to conclude that it was finally time to put this matter behind us," Travolta said in a statement. "Therefore, after much reflection I concluded that it was in my family's best interest for me not to voluntarily return to The Bahamas to testify a second time at trial."
