PITTSBURGH, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Pittsburgh Penguins hockey superstar Sidney Crosby showed Wednesday he can also crack a baseball, hitting a batting practice home run at PNC Park.
Crosby and eight other Penguins were participating in a team bonding day by donning baseball cleats, caps and gloves and taking batting practice at the Pittsburgh Pirates' stadium.
Crosby displayed his all-around athletic skills by smacking a handful of pitches deep into right field, just missing the fence several times. Then he took a left-handed swing and bashed one 370 feet, deep into the right field seats to the delight of his teammates.
"I've never done that before," Crosby told Penguins.com. "I had a little bit of an edge because I am a lefty."
Crosby said he played baseball until the age of 13 and still loves the sport.
"He obviously has some serious hand-eye coordination," Pirates second baseman Neil Walker told the Web site. "I think he would catch on pretty quickly. He is a natural athlete. That was quite a shot right there. That was all of 360 to 370 feet."
